Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Anduril scales production and deployment of advanced autonomous aircraft systems, sustainment excellence becomes mission-critical. We are seeking a Chief Engineer of Fury Sustainment to lead the technical strategy, operational execution, and lifecycle performance of deployed autonomous unmanned aircraft system (UAS) fleets. You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams driving continuous improvement across the sustainment lifecycle for aerospace-grade flight systems. This role is responsible for ensuring fleet readiness, availability, reliability, and long-term airworthiness across diverse and challenging operational environments for our military autonomous aircraft.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own the technical vision and execution for aircraft and subsystem sustainment engineering across deployed autonomous UAS fleets.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve autonomous aircraft system safety, reliability, maintainability, and operational availability.
- Serve as chief technical authority for all sustainment-related engineering decisions impacting flight performance and airworthiness.
- Lead technical investigations into aerospace fleet issues, aging aircraft concerns, and critical failure events impacting unmanned flight systems.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership for the development of AI/ML-driven predictive maintenance tools to support maintenance tracking and prognosis for autonomous aircraft.
- Analyze operational flight data and telemetry to identify reliability drivers and implement corrective design or process actions for aerospace hardware and software.
- Drive reliability growth programs and continuous performance improvement initiatives for military autonomous aircraft fleets.
- Oversee development of specialized repair schemes, including composite repair analysis and validation, specifically for UAS structures and components.
- Direct failure analysis investigations and root cause corrective actions for complex flight systems and payloads.
- Oversee sustainment-related manufacturing engineering activities, including: Traditional and additive manufacturing solutions for repair, tooling development to support maintenance, overhaul, and check visits for UAS platforms.
- Adapt and refine production process standards for sustainment applications, ensuring rapid turnaround for fielded autonomous systems.
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams, including those focused on aerospace reliability, maintainability, and supportability (RMS).
- Partner with engineering, program management, production, supply chain, flight operations, and quality teams to optimize the sustainment ecosystem for autonomous flight systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- 10+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience in aerospace sustainment, fleet engineering, or airworthiness leadership, specifically with autonomous or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary aircraft engineering teams focused on sustainment, reliability, and operational readiness.
- Strong understanding of military aircraft maintenance practices, MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) operations, and regulatory compliance, particularly for unmanned or autonomous platforms.
- Proven experience supporting fielded military aircraft programs in diverse and demanding operational environments, including forward deployed locations.
- Demonstrated experience scaling sustainment operations for rapidly growing fleets of complex aerospace systems, including logistical and supply chain challenges.
- In-depth familiarity with military airworthiness frameworks, regulations (e.g., DoD Joint Airworthiness Requirements, specific service branch airworthiness processes), and certification processes for autonomous aircraft.
- Expertise in Design for Maintainability (DFMaint), Reliability Engineering, and Supportability Analysis (SA) in an aerospace context.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in reliability prediction methods, statistical analysis of failure data, and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) for complex systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-graduate degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Aerospace Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Direct experience developing and implementing advanced predictive maintenance (PHM - Prognostics and Health Management) solutions using AI/ML for aerospace systems.
- Proven experience designing, validating, and managing supply chains for global sustainment operations of mission-critical autonomous defense platforms.
- Experience leveraging Digital Twin technology for maintenance planning, fault diagnostics, and configuration management across a deployed fleet.
- Demonstrated ability to influence product design early in the lifecycle to enhance long-term maintainability, reliability, and cost-of-ownership for next-generation autonomous aircraft.
