Base Power Company · Austin, TX
Software engineer leading the software-driven systems integration function for batteries, inverters, and power systems. Builds integration test pipelines running HIL and full-system tests on self-hosted CI runners, plus integration software over gRPC/HTTP, CAN (ISO-TP, UDS), and UART/SPI/I2C. Languages are Python, Go, and C/C++.
Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
The Systems Integration team at Base is responsible for ensuring our power systems, inverters, and batteries work together as one reliable product in the real world. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will establish and lead the software-driven integration function, building the tools, pipelines, and team that allow Base to bring hardware, firmware, and software together into trusted, high-quality products at scale. You will work closely with Electrical, Mechanical, and Firmware Engineering to define how our systems should integrate end-to-end, and then prove it through rigorous, software-driven test and integration frameworks.
This is an opportunity to shape how systems integration is done at Base, from first principles to implementation.
Base's Systems Integration team makes sure our batteries, inverters, and power systems work together as one reliable product in the real world. We own the development and test infrastructure the rest of engineering builds on: hardware-in-the-loop rigs, test benches and fixtures wired from signal-level harnesses to 240/480V power, and the software, CI pipelines, and data tools that run tests on them around the clock. Our job is to catch hardware and firmware issues before they reach a member's home, reproduce the ones that slip through in the lab, and give engineers the confidence to ship to the fleet fast. As the fleet grows, so does the need for test capacity, and the stations, tools, and tests this team builds set the pace for how quickly Base can ship new products.
Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
